What is an Amazon ASIN?
An ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) is a 10-character alphanumeric code Amazon assigns to every product in its catalogue. Almost all non-book ASINs start with B0. For books, the ASIN is the same as the 10-digit ISBN. The ASIN is what makes a product link canonical — strip everything else from a long Amazon URL and the /dp/<ASIN> path alone still works.

Why marketplace-specific URLs matter
The same ASIN often exists across multiple Amazon stores, but each marketplace has its own price, stock, reviews, and shipping options. A canonical URL like amazon.co.uk/dp/B08N5WRWNW sends UK shoppers to the listing that will actually deliver to them. If you're an affiliate, this is also where your commission lives — a US tag ending in -20 earns nothing on amazon.co.uk. Once you have the ASIN, open the country-specific generator to add the correct tag for that store.
