How to create a custom short code (vanity URL)

Pick your own memorable ending for a Smart Link — gsl.li/your-brand — instead of a random code, so the link reads clean and on-brand everywhere you share it. Availability is checked live as you type.

Instead of a random code, a custom short code lets you choose the end of the URL — gsl.li/your-brand or gsl.li/summer-sale — so the link is readable, memorable and on-brand. It is a paid feature with a per-plan quota, and a live checker tells you instantly whether a code is free.

    1. 1

      Open the create form

Click + New link and add your Default URL and Title as usual.

    2. 2

      Type your custom ending

In the Custom short code field, type the ending you want. Availability is checked live as you type — use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens.

      • 1 — Your custom code, e.g. gsl.li/summer-sale.

Custom codes are a paid-plan feature; your remaining quota is shown next to the field.

      Create your Smart Link

Click Create Smart Link. Your link now uses your custom ending — e.g. gsl.li/summer-sale — which you can brand further with a branded subdomain.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a custom short code available on the free plan?

Custom codes are a paid feature, with each plan including a set quota. The live availability check tells you right away whether the code you want is still free to claim.

What makes a good custom code?

Keep it short, readable and relevant — a brand name, product or campaign. Avoid spaces and special characters; the checker confirms a code is valid and available as you type.

What happens to my custom codes if I downgrade?

If a downgrade puts you over your new plan’s quota, over-quota codes are paused (behind a double confirmation) rather than deleted, so you can restore them simply by upgrading again.
